Rachelle's Reading List

Rachelle's Reading List

I try to keep this part of my emails free of Presidential news - my attempt to offer up a little, hopefully regenerative break from #45 and the never-ending barrage of his terribleness. However, the Trumps recently visited the Queen and the memes that have been flooding Instagram are just too hard to ignore. Below, my favorite of the Queen in Vitkor and Rolf's catchy dress:

Here's some more fun memes of when the Trumps met the Royals (and made us all shake our heads).

If you, like me, are counting down the days to when this bonehead will finally be out of office and don't understand why Dems aren't pushing to impeach him already, head here for a great explanation of both sides of the Impeachment debate.

In news from leaders we wished were ours, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today that his country will invest US$1 billion annually in women’s and girls’ health around the world.

This is beyond cool. The Monument Quilt, the first national monument honoring survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence is coming to the country’s capital this weekend. It features a collection of over 3,000 stories of sexual assault and domestic violence written, painted and stitched into red fabric by survivors and their allies. The quilt, created by the Baltimore-based organization FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture, was constructed over the past six years as organizers traveled to 49 states and 33 cities in the U.S. and Mexico, where parts of the quilt had been previously displayed.

Everyone is talking about Netflix's new miniseries, "When They See Us" which depicts the injustice of the infamous Central Park Five case. Created by Ava DuVernay, it's definitely a must see.

Also worth watching - this interview between Kanye West and David Letterman...if only to see Kanye deck out David out in a head-to-toe Yeezy fashion.

The CFDA's are the Oscars of the Fashion Universe. Here's who won.

"Without Madonna, we don’t have Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and maybe even Janelle Monae," writes our friend Vanessa Grigoriadis, in this comprehensive article on Madonna which will more than satisfy any hardcore fan out there.

I'm starting a new book this week. I'll let you know!

This really fun summer jewelry keeps popping up in my IG feed.

Man Repeller just launched a line of new products and they are just as fun as you'd hope they'd be. Plus, they're wallet friendly. My pick? This pretty hair bow on the left which reminds me of European beach umbrellas. Swoon.

Nuns and Nones. This story is so delightful. A group of Millennials ("nones") looking for a break and some answers are becoming roomies with a group of good old fashioned sisters (nuns), and both groups are growing from it.

Who in the world decided we should be reaching 10,000 steps each day? Turns out there is absolutely no evidence to back this number!

Go inside Jeff Bezo's new $80 million spread in NYC.

Late risers (I usually get up around 9 am) rejoice. Waking up early does NOT make you more successful, productive OR healthy. So there!

Keith McNally's belovedPastis has reopened across the street from its original location, and I'm seeing more than a couple of fellow downtown locals post it on their feeds. I can't wait to check it out!

Check out my friend Alex Auder's profile in the NYT styles section. She is wacky and authentic and wonderful and her Instagram will make you laugh out loud.

I swoon out loud every time Jamie Beck (aka@annstreetstudio) posts from Provence on Instagram. She left NY with her husband, had a baby, and will literally have yourethinking yourr own life journey, one glorious croissant at a time.

Finally, I want to leave you with something that will make your heart melt. This video is making the rounds today, and it's DELIGHTFUL

p.s. I promised Sophie I would mention that we are looking for a new staff member for our store sales team. If you are interested or know someone that would be interested in working at our Bleecker street store, please emailsophie@linguafranca.nyc.
