Janet never faked the funk. "Janet was a Mexican American single mom surfer who drove an orange Porsche and had a bleached blond afro. Janet always had a look. Janet kept a fur coat in our basement. To this day, I can't describe the coat other than to say it was too crazy for Aspen. Janet would wear the coat shopping on the upper east side and get a thrill when fancy ladies like Lee Radziwill would stop in their tracks to try to understand her look. Janet was always an outsider - and always admired by insiders."
