We're back from a week away, where we got some much needed time with family and friends and tried our bests to celebrate our country's independence and all of the feelings associated with the holiday. And, I for one am proud to be an American. I'm proud of fellow citizens like Therese Patricia Okoumou who literally climbed the Statue of Liberty and sat at her feet on the 4th of July to protest the families separated at the border. I'm proud of my pals on Instagram who, even on holiday are posting pictures to #normalizeBreastFeeding, of my other friends around the country putting away their swimsuits and opening their homes to fundraisers for new talent in Washington. I'm proud of the people calling their Senators to demand that they wait on a vote for the Supreme Court, of the kids around the country who are shutting down major highways in protest ofgun laws, and of the environmentalists who are keeping headlines on Pruitt's replacement. And you know what? I'm even proud of the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. It may seem silly to allow a blow up balloon baby of our blowhard president to fly around his city this week during his visit, but it's not, our president is a bully and should not be celebrated. Says Mayor Sadiq Khan: “Londoners love and admire America and Americans” but find his policies and actions “the polar opposite of our city’s values of inclusion, diversity and tolerance.” I couldn't have said it better myself.
It's been two years of daily headlines and headaches and they are not stopping. But guess what? We are not stopping either. We care a lot about this country. xo Rachelle
