Joy is an act of Resistance
This last week has been a whirlwind of excitement, inspiration, and pure joy for me. It all started a couple of weeks ago when we were brainstorming what to do for International Women's Day (IWD). All I knew was that we needed to round up my dear friend, photographer Pamela Hanson, and that we needed to have a celebration. After all, we had all just lived through a PROFOUND year of changes. From Time's Up to #MeToo, women have been stepping up, speaking out and doing what they do best: nurture each other. I wanted to find women who would symbolize the celebration we felt this day deserved, the celebration happening in so many of our hearts. The minute I heard the Resistance Revival Choruson Instagram, I knew they were it. Their motto: "a revival of our spirits, of our commitment to the movement, of our joy and of our power," I mean...it's enough to bring me to tears. And, if their commitment to joy doesn't leave you happy crying, listening to them sing will. Ladies, we've got a long way to go. But! We have each other, we have the attention of the world, and we have songs that have been written in our souls from generations of women to guide us! When they've taken everything else from you, remember this truth: they can't take away your joy. We are thrilled and honored to support the Resistance Revival Chorus and the Alliance for Quality Education (aqeny.org ), which chorus member Zakiyah Shaakir-Ansari introduced us to (Zakiyah is Advocacy Director for the Alliance). We collaborated with chorus members to feature lyrics from their favorite songs. There are four styles to choose from and each sweater sends $100 back to the orgs mentioned above. Please go and meet these incredible women HERE.
