A retired reading specialist who spent her career working with struggling middle schoolers, Marcia now inspires students ages 65+ to stay active in her “silver sneakers” exercise classes.
Name: Marcia Jenkins
Age: 80
Birthplace: New Castle, PA
What woman in your life has been the greatest source of inspiration to you? I would have to say my mother. She became a widow at 42 with two little children to raise. I was ten years old and my little brother was only seven. At that young I didn’t realize how much she sacrificed so that we never felt deprived.
What does it mean to be extraordinary? I never thought of myself as extraordinary, but am so touched that my daughters think I am!
How do you hope to inspire the next generation of women? By encouraging them to follow their dreams. There are no boundaries.
What motivates you to do your extraordinary work? My class says I motivate them to “keep moving,” but actually they motivate me! When I look out and see the progress many of them have made, it is so rewarding! Working with people of my generation, the over 65 group, has been a joy!
