"Live Well, Give Well"
"Think of giving not as a duty, but as a privilege." -John D. Rockefeller, Jr.
One of the greatest joys Lingua Franca has brought into my life has been that it's opened me up to the amazing world of charitable giving and all of the people, organizations, and good feelings that come with that. Our company's charitable contributions thus far have exceeded anything I'd be able to contribute to the world alone - and, with your help, we have no plans on slowing down. Through hand stitched cashmere, we've been able to give over $200,000 to dozens and dozens of organizations, from those close to home, like the Lower East Side Girls Club and the NYC Alliance for Quality Education, to those that have reached national and even international acclaim, such as Planned Parenthood and the ACLU, and many many more. And it all started with a single stitch... I am blown away every single day by the support we've received, and I am proud and humbled by the folks I've gotten to meet along the way who are out there tirelessly and thanklessly working in the trenches. When building the $100 give back component into our personal order sales, I had no idea what a profound effect this small step would have on me personally and Lingua Franca collectively as a company. It really has changed my life. "No individual contributed more to the commercial and civic life of New York City, over a longer period of time, than David Rockefeller. David set a new standard for what it means to be a leader in business, public service, and philanthropy." - Michael Bloomberg
When Christie's, the world renown auction house, contacted us about creating something to celebrate their upcoming sales of The Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller we were thrilled. Not only is this sale set to be the biggest art sale in history, we felt connected to the philanthropic spirit of the Rockefeller's. If giving were an art form, they would be its masters. In line with this spirit, 100% of the proceeds from our pieces (cashmere sweaters and travel sets hand embroidered with "live well give well") will go to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), which was founded by David Rockefeller's mother Addy. To purchase a sweater ($380) or travel set ($450), you can head to the front counter of Christie's Rockefeller Plaza (entrance on 49th street between 5th and 6th avenue). They will be on sale starting tomorrow until supplies last. Give like a Rockefeller! xo Rachelle
